Task: Manage Releases And Deployments
The purpose of the task is to monitor the releases. This includes timely closure of releases, reduction of release defects, backlogs etc.
Relationships
Main Description
The Release Manager must review the releases to check if the service is operational as expected after deploying the Release Package, relevant approvals are received especially for a change request and the requests are progressed correctly. Quality checks must be performed on a sample of releases to ensure that the agreed Release And Deployment Management process is correctly followed.

In case of any issues in the process followed, the Release Manager must follow it up with the appropriate team (from the Delivery Team, Test team or Deployment Team), identify the root cause and come up with corrective actions for the same. In case of any delays observed in the release schedule due to pending approvals or unavailability of resources or defects not closed, the Release Manager may need to intervene to accelerate the process.

The ongoing tracking of actions is a key contribution to the overall control and monitoring of the engagement. The Release Manager must track the progress of incidents and changes triggered by a service release and must ensure that they are closed as per the agreed timelines. The effectiveness of the implementation must also be determined, and lessons learnt must be recorded. The Release Manager should review any unsuccessful releases with the relevant stakeholder to assess the effectiveness of the implementation.
